9 Days Lowland & Mountain Gorillas

This is a chance to explore the wildlife in DR Congo and Rwanda; Gorilla Trekking Holiday – Tracking Mountain Gorillas Rwanda and Lowland Gorillas in DR Congo in Kahuzi-Biega national park, Mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park – Rwanda and Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest national park in Rwanda.

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali airport

Our tour representative will be holding a placard bearing your namely happily waiting to receive you at Kigali airport. He will immediately transfer you to a hotel in Kigali for relaxation, dinner and an overnight.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest, Southern Rwanda

After breakfast, our tour guide will pick you from the hotel and drive southwards, en route visiting the Mirambi Genocide memorial site and the King’s Palace . Overnight stay at Nyungwe Safari Lodge / Gisakura Guest House

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking Nyungwe forest

Very early in the morning assemble at Gisakura park headquarters for briefing from the senior park ranger before undertaking a forest walk searching for man’s closest relative – the chimpanzees. Overnight stay at Nyungwe Safari Lodge / Gisakura Guest House

Day 4: Cross over to Bukavu in Congo

This day cross over to DR Congo in preparation for the next day’s lowland gorilla trekking. It takes less than 2 hours to cross over to Bukavu town. This day you may visit the museum at Bukavu and other interesting places at Lake Kivu with a boat cruise to Idjwi Island. Overnight stay Orchides Mbayo / Coco Horizon

Day 5: Gorilla trekking

Start from Tshivanga Visitor Centre for briefing on the trek. Then penetrate the in the company of armed game rangers following the well attended to trails. In the forest you will be allowed at least an hour in the presence of the lowland gorillas. Return to the lodge for relaxation and later return to Rwanda’s Lake Kivu shore for an overnight at Kivu Serena Hotel / Paladis Malahide. 

Day 6: Boat cruise on Lake Kivu

Enjoy a boat cruise to the coffee Island. Witness the local brewing of banana beer and the banana gardens. Return to the shores for lunch and in the afternoon drive to Ruhengeri – Kinigi. Overnight stay Mt Gorilla View Lodge | La Palme Hotel.

Day 7: Mountain gorilla trekking

This day is reserved to tracking mountain gorillas in Volcanoes national park

Day 8: Golden monkey tracking or Visiting Dian Fossey Graveyard

On this day you may choose to track golden monkeys or visit Dian Fossey graveyard at Karisoke. In the afternoon transfer back to Kigali. Overnight stay Kigali Serena Hotel

Day 9: Kigali city tour and departure

This day enjoy Kigali city tour; visit the Gisozi genocide memorial site and the handicrafts shops. In the evening we shall drop at the airport for your return flight.
